As a child I learned to love books.
To be able to spend time alone is also something that I value and one that I believe is a good life skill. There are two words that describe being alone; one is loneliness and the other is solitude and they feel very different.
In our increasingly busy world, there is a great need for solitude, a time and place for being with ourselves and enjoying a good book can give us that time; it can be very comforting and relaxing, (depending on the book of course!)
By introducing stories and books to young children we are teaching them to switch off, to let go of their day and enter into the world of stories; of discovery and imagination – and to find friends that they love and make them laugh. Loneliness can be felt in a crowd like when you start a new school; a challenge for all youngsters, solitude, on the other hand, spent with a book that we love is restorative.
Getting young children cosy in bed or sitting together on a winters evening by the fire and enjoying a story together is time for you and your children. As an author, I hope to provide stories that teach, comfort and bring fun into the lives of children and their parents. As a mother of four, stories and songs were an everyday part of our lives, now I write stories of my own, I hope you will enjoy and that your children will go on to love books as they grow up.
